Only Live is the sixth album of the Stonehenge RockBand. The first with the new lineup which will see the presence of the new bassist from 2021. As tradition of this group and its previous publications, this album collects some recordings made live during 2023 at the Oasi della Musica in Florence. The proposed songs are taken from some rehearsal sessions and were recorded live, deliberately in a simple way and without many “frills”, with the help of a professional Shure VP88 microphone and Tascam HDP2 digital recorder. They are always covers which on this occasion span a longer time span from 1960 to 1994 and on the album they appear ordered by year of release of the respective originals. Combined with the previous ones, they essentially constitute a tribute to Anglo-American music and the pleasure of live sound.
The Album
The opening track is Apache from 1960, dedicated to the Indian tribe of the same name, originally played by the Shadows, one of the first groups to appear on stage in what would become the classic rock lineup (lead electric guitar, rhythm, bass and drums). Then followed by Rolling Stones first style, Mamas & Papas, Jimmy Hendrix (with a song not his but one made famous by him), Moody Blues, Spencer Davis Group, Steve Winwood, Premiata Forneria Marconi, David Bowie, Deep Purple, Santana, Joe Cocker, Gary Moore and finally a 1994 song by Alvin Lee. The version that will be available in digital stores will contain an alternate take of this last song as bonus track. A retro-rock playlist lasting over an hour that is smooth and pleasant to listen to.
Only Live – Stonehenge RockBand. The years pass, the age increases but the group continues undaunted, also reinvigorated by the presence of the new bassist. The sound here appears calmer than on the first releases and the atmosphere is more relaxed also due to the absence of an audience. Present on the main liquid music websites such as Apple Music, Spotify, iTunes, YouTube, Tidal and others, these songs have since been withdrawn.
