“Once upon a time there was a small quartet!” is a short story written by Max Zatini who sent us this contribution that we gladly publish. Max, besides having played in various groups, was the first bassist of “Comma_13 Band” and is currently the bassist of “Stolen Apple“.
With this short story we believe he wanted to pay homage, with his own memories and perceptions, to a common place for all musicians. That is the place where they carry out the tests.
Nowadays most of them find themselves in rooms specially equipped for this purpose (rehearsal rooms), often impersonal and aseptic. The most famous or even the most fortunate have their own special rooms equipped with everything you need whether they are technical or musical instruments. Several years ago this role was almost reserved for “cellars” or for isolated places. Over time, these places retain and then release particular sensations to visitors who are able to perceive them!
So we just have to wish you a good reading of this short story, which can be viewed in pdf format from the link below.
ONCE UPON A TIME THERE WAS A SMALL QUARTET! (by Max Zatini)
….This is not the story of a “practice room”. It is a story of love and funny obsessions. The story of a refuge, where along with the molds you can still breathe the whirlwind of a “End of Year” party from a long time ago! Where the ghosts of every day, the tiredness, the dizziness, are always finally driven out by the notes, which even before being signs on the staff, are beats of the heart of every person who has played in there. Fragments of sad thoughts and anger, distances, unfinished things that will remain so because none of us, apart from rare exceptions, has ever been able to really play.
It is the story of a dream room, of physical love for woods and strings, for something to hold on to when you no longer have anything to hold you tight. It is a place where sounds filter through, but the deepest instances of each one remain held inside by the same insulator that holds the drawings, and where sounds that no one will ever hear live because, even if they did, they would not sound like there….
